As a rural practice we are allowed to dispense medication to the majority of our patients. We cannot dispense to those living in Penrith and Appleby if they live within one mile of a chemist, so these patients will be issued with a printed prescription. If you require your prescriptions to be posted to you, please provide us with a supply of stamped, addressed envelopes.
Repeat prescriptions may be issued without seeing the doctor. Your request can be made by leaving a message on the answer phone on 017683 61530. We require your name, date of birth, and the list of medication you need. If you are an Appleby or Penrith patient, please state if you will collect the prescription from the surgery or if we have SAE’s for posting.
Requests for repeat medication can also be ordered in person during surgery hours, by post, by fax – (fax number 017683 66869).
It helps us if you tick the drugs you require on the printed list from your previous prescription and return this to the surgery.
Alternatively you can now order online via the link at the top of this page. First time users are required to complete a simple registration.
If you have any queries regarding your medication, you can speak to one of the dispensers between 12:00 and 13:00 on 017683 61530.If you ring during this time and still get the answer-phone, please try again as we may be on the phone to another patient. If you experience any problems with our service, please ask to speak to the dispensary manager Donna Simpson.
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account. Requests left on a Friday will not be ready for collection until Tuesday.
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website
Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed. Any problems please telephone the surgery.
